Do You have an Opportunity Network?

I’m Steve Woodruff, the Connection Agent.  I create, with a growing community of talented people worldwide, Opportunity Networks.

What is an Opportunity Network? It’s a group of people committed to supporting one another, learning from one another, and opening up doors of opportunity for personal and professional advancement.

My primary professional opportunity network is Impactiviti, for the pharma industry. More recently, I’ve launched the Connection Agency. All of my networks are purpose-built to bring the best people together in order to multiply opportunities.

Let’s face it – there is little reason to put stock in the old “safety nets” of corporate security, government provision, and the like. It’s up to us to build our own networks and to create new avenues of opportunity for one another. As I put it in a post on MarketingProfs DailyFix blog:

I’ve been growing a network in the marketing/branding/social media field that now spans many industries, regions, and roles. These are all individuals, for whom I may be able to add value and open doors, and who may open doors for me. The shared sympathy that we’ve developed (primarily) via social media tools creates a giant, growing opportunity network.

What is coming of these bottom-up, individually-cultivated networks? New jobs for the displaced. New business for talented folks who can help each others’ clients. The development of more efficient, virtual business models that will aggregate talent without regard for borders. More rapid integration into a community when someone moves. Exposure to new resources, tools, and approaches. Even something as simple as helpful advice when visiting a new area for vacation.

No-one is going to build your opportunity network for you. But we can build ours together. Join me.
